Tuesday 26th of July 2022 edit Class (Narrative theories)

In Today's class, we're talking about narrative theories. we started by understanding the difference between narrative and plot. The plot is the events in the story, while narrative is the way to tell the story. Narrative can either be linear or non-linear. Linear narrative is when a story is being told in the correct order of the events, while non-linear narrative tells the story not in the perfect order.

We also discussed 2 narrative theories from Todorov and Levis Strauss. Todorov state that a story are consist of equilibrium-disruption-the recognition of disruption-repair, and lastly the new equilibrium. Levis's theory talked more about the opposition in a story that creates the story itself which is called the binary opposite, for example; good vs evil, dark vs light, anarchy vs peace, etc.

Lastly, we tried to apply this theory to some movies we watch.
